A low structure-only number and a complete operating-facility number are not competing prices. They are different scopes.

Eight major cost groups
| Cost group | Variables that change the quotation | Evidence to request |
|---|---|---|
| Design basis | Wind, snow, seismic, rain, temperature, code and importance category | Named assumptions and project calculations/drawings |
| Structure | Bay, column grid, gutter height, loads from screens/equipment and corrosion environment | Member schedule, coating and foundation reactions |
| Glass and envelope | Pane type, size, treatment, coating, gaskets, vents, doors and gutters | Pane schedule and complete glazing-system bill |
| Climate systems | Ventilation, screens, cooling, heating, circulation, sensors and controls | Equipment schedule and design conditions |
| Crop and water systems | Irrigation, fertigation, treatment, storage, benches, hydroponics and drainage | Process diagram, zones and responsibility boundary |
| Logistics | Factory location, crates, containers, inland freight, port, duties and site access | Packing list, shipping split and Incoterm |
| Site and installation | Survey, soil, grading, foundations, lifting, labor, utilities and accommodation | Installation plan and explicit by-others list |
| Commissioning and support | Testing, training, manuals, spares, warranty and travel | Acceptance plan and after-sales scope |

Normalize quotations before ranking them
Create one comparison sheet with the same area definition, loads, crop, environmental design conditions and equipment capacity. Mark each item included, excluded, provisional or by others. Compare quantities, technical assumptions, delivery terms, installation, commissioning and warranty as well as the total.
Budget items often missed
- Topographic and geotechnical work, permits and local professional review.
- External power, water, fuel, communications, stormwater and discharge.
- Unloading, storage, lifting equipment, local labor and construction supervision.
- Spare glass, replacement tools, consumables and initial calibration.
- Operator hiring, training, crop inputs and ramp-up losses.
Information needed for a meaningful price
- Site coordinates, climate data, design loads and soil report.
- Crop, growing method, production zones and target operating season.
- Greenhouse area, bay/module, gutter height, clearances and expansion plan.
- Glazing, vents, screens, heating, cooling, irrigation and controls.
- Contract boundary, destination, installation plan and required handover support.
Request a comparable quotation
Send the site, crop, target area, climate data and system scope. We can identify the missing inputs before preparing a project-specific proposal.
Prepare a glass greenhouse RFQFrequently asked questions
Why do glass greenhouse quotes vary so much?
They may use different loads, glass, vent areas, system capacity, logistics and exclusions. Normalize the scope before comparing totals.
Is a price per square metre useful?
Only after area definition, location and system scope are fixed. It is unsuitable for comparing unlike facilities.
What should a supplier state about exclusions?
Every excluded civil, utility, local labor, permit, tax, installation, commissioning and crop item should be named with its interface.
